Angela Birchett is a proud native of Detroit, Michigan,
where her love for singing and performing was nurtured, groomed and
encouraged
from a young age. In 1994 she was exposed to her first acting
opportunity and
has been bitten by the “theatre bug” ever since. She played the role of
Missy
in a production of Purlie under the
direction of Rick Sperling, President of The Mosaic Youth Theatre of
Detroit.
While attending Kentucky State University
she completed a
Bachelors of Music Education and another in Vocal Performance. In her
summers
off she did summer stock theatre (Stephen Foster the Musical, Showboat,
Once On
This Island). She returned to Detroit
in 2003 and began her career as a music teacher. While at Paul Robeson
Academy
she created a vocal music department complete with a choir, small
chamber
ensemble, recorder ensemble and several soloists
In 2005 she had the opportunity to join the
National Tour of
Smokey Joe’s Café as a replacement and as life would have it
that launched her
into a full time career ever since. Some of her favorite shows to date
are
Asaka in Once On This Island, Effie White in Dreamgirls, Crystal in
Little Shop
of Horrors and Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray. Angela continues to
share her
gifts all across America
and abroad. In addition to performances in Japan
and China, Angela
most
recently appeared in Istanbul,
Turkey
in
Grease as Teen Angel. Angela resides in New York City
and is a
proud member of Actor’s Equity Association.
